Virtual Victory

One day I was facilitating a frog dissection being conducted by my 7th-grade friends and the next day I was home learning how to teach my students virtually for the next year and a half while teaching my students virtually for the next year and a half. Every other day I came across an article during my daily e-scroll screaming about how students were desperate to get back to school and how they simply wouldn't be able to survive in life if they didn't go back to school in person.


Somewhere along the way, I realized virtual school wasn't nearly as terrible as some bloggers, journalists and politicians made it out to be, and eventually, I became fully aware of how beneficial and necessary it was. Many students I taught in person did better academically and socially while learning at home. A good bunch of them went from being serious behavior challenges in school to being compliant and high-performing at home. I had some students who were reluctant to verbally participate in school who couldn't stop chatting or unmuting their mics to do the complete opposite online. Best of all, we had zero fights and I had zero absences.
